AKSEL ARJ App – Timetable, TSR, and Digital Orders in a Single System

Share

In response to dynamic regulatory updates and the ongoing digitalization of the Polish railway sector, Aksel has launched a new version of its proprietary Aksel ARJ (Electronic Timetable) application. This comprehensive solution integrates all critical operational documents into a unified system, fully complying with the latest PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. mandates regarding the electronic transmission of written operational orders to train drivers.

The Challenge: New PKP PLK Mandates and Tool Fragmentation

The implementation of electronic operational orders for train drivers by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. required rail operators to adapt their onboard technologies rapidly. Relying on legacy paper documentation or switching between multiple standalone, non-integrated digital utilities increased the risk of human error, caused operational delays, and complicated the daily workflow of train crews.

The primary challenge was to engineering a single, secure digital ecosystem capable of retrieving timetables, tracking track restrictions, and processing digital orders instantly in real time.

The Solution: One System, Total Operational Integration

The newly updated Aksel ARJ application redefines documentation management in the driver’s cab by seamlessly centralizing three core operational components within a single interface:

  • Electronic timetables synchronized directly with official railway databases.

  • Temporary Speed Restrictions (TSR / WOS), ensuring continuous access to active route limit alerts.

  • Digital operational orders, managed via the newly deployed and dedicated "Order" feature.

Consequently, train drivers benefit from an all-in-one workspace, eliminating the need to manage multiple independent devices or software programs.

Core System Features:

  • Secure Access Control: Drivers log in securely using a unique statistical identification number, with an option for multi-layer password protection.

  • Standard Compliance: Timetables are rendered in PDF format fully compliant with the SKRJ system, alongside a clear, structured view of Temporary Speed Restrictions.

  • Automated Order Management: The system delivers real-time online notifications when new orders are issued by PKP PLK, allowing drivers to digitally acknowledge them, which instantly feeds validation data back into PKP PLK systems.

  • Central Document Library: Operators can easily push extra PDF files to crews, including internal company guidelines, handbooks, or corporate notices.

  • Offline Data Buffering: High reliability is achieved through local data caching on the device, ensuring uninterrupted access to all timetables and files even when traveling through GSM dead zones.

Flexible Deployment Options:

AKSEL ARJ has been built to support diverse rolling stock configurations and is available in two form factors:

  1. As a mobile tablet application (offering maximum portability for roaming crews).

  2. As an onboard terminal application permanently integrated into the locomotive’s driver desk.

Key Benefits for Operators and Train Drivers

  • Full Regulatory Compliance: Immediate alignment with the stringent digital operational frameworks introduced by PKP PLK S.A.

  • Enhanced Rail Safety: Real-time push alerts and automatic digital confirmation logging eliminate the risk of missing critical movement orders.

  • Operational Efficiency: Drastically minimizes pre-departure preparation times by providing swift, centralized digital access to the entire documentation suite.
